What species do you test?
We currently specialize in poultry, including chickens, ducks, turkeys, guineas, peafowl, pheasants, quail, geese, emu
How accurate are your DNA tests?
Our DNA testing methods are highly accurate when a quality sample is submitted. Sample contamination or insufficient DNA may require a retest.
Sample Collection
What sample types do you accept?
We recommend dried blood samples collected on a clean coffee filter. Feather samples are also accepted.
Why do you recommend blood instead of feathers?
Blood provides significantly more DNA than feathers, resulting in higher quality samples and more reliable testing.
How do I collect a blood sample?
- Clean the bird's toenail and clippers with rubbing alcohol.
- Allow the alcohol to dry completely.
- Trim the nail slightly into the quick.
- Place one or two drops of blood onto a clean coffee filter.
- Allow the sample to air dry completely before packaging.
Can I send feather samples?
Yes! They have to be feathers pulled from the bird not molted feathers. Please provide 3-4 feathers per bird.
Can I send multiple birds in one order?
Yes! We regularly process orders containing dozens of birds.
How should I label my samples?
Each sample should match the identification entered on your DNA Sample Information Form.

How should I package my samples?
Allow samples to dry completely before mailing. Place them in a clean envelope along with your order information.
Do I need to refrigerate samples?
No. Once completely dry, samples can be mailed at room temperature.
Results
How long does testing take?
Turnaround time begins once your samples arrive at the lab. Most orders are completed quickly, and you'll receive your results by email within 24 hours.
What if a sample cannot be tested?
If a sample is insufficient or contaminated, we'll notify you if a replacement sample is needed.

Do I need to purchase testing before mailing samples?
Yes. Orders should be placed through our website before mailing samples.
Can I add additional birds after placing my order?
Yes. Contact us as soon as possible and we'll help update your order.
Can I submit more samples than I originally ordered?
Yes. Additional testing can be added before your order is completed.
Is DNA sexing more accurate than vent sexing?
Yes. DNA testing offers a highly accurate method for determining genetic sex and avoids the uncertainty that can occur with visual sexing in many breeds.
